Exciting news from Tate Britain!

For the duration of Broadway Arts Festival 2010, they are prepared to loan two important sketches, made by John Singer Sargent in preparation for his major work 'Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose' (now permanently on show in the Tate collection). They are portrait sketches of Dolly and Polly Barnard, the two local girls depicted in the iconic work.

Not everyone realises that most artists, before commencing a detailed work, produce multiple preparatory sketches and drawings - they do not simply pose their subject and hope they stay still!

We are grateful to the Directors of Tate Britain for this generous gesture...
