A talk by Heather Birchall (Curator Historic Fine Art Whitworth Art Gallery, University of Manchester) 'Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose' Its place in British Art 
Ms Birchall will examine the biography of the painting Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose and investigate its legacy within the story of British Art, and within Sargent’s own artistic career as one of society’s most fashionable and sought after portraitists. Additionally, she will explore Sargent’s association with the village which became a summer colony for a group of vibrant young English and American writers.
