Arts and Crafts Movement lecture, including the work of Sir Gordon Russell by the Broadway Trust with the Gordon Russell Trust

Speakers will be Ray Leigh, MBE and Prof. Derek Wakelin.
Ray Leigh`s illustrated talk will cover the Russell family and their impact on Broadway life following their arrival in the village in 1904, at which time they bought The Lygon Arms.

What follows is a remarkable story - The Lygon, in the sure hands of Sidney Bolton Russell, restored architecturally and becoming acknowledged as one of the finest country inns in England; it  attracted visitors worldwide.
The furniture workshops were established by Sir Gordon Russell who in the early days was greatly influenced by the Arts & Crafts Movement. The workshops at their height employed over 200 highly skilled craftsmen and eventually becoming recognised as a leader in 20th century design.
