Broadway Arts Festival
Community...

The Vision
The sustainable creation of a biennial Festival to celebrate Broadway’s Artistic heritage in Fine Arts, Music, Drama, Dance, Arts and Crafts; with the intention of contributing to the Arts locally, regionally and nationally.
To raise aspirations for local children and young people and their families and make Broadway a significant destination for the Arts.

The 2010 Broadway Arts Festival was not just about the activities during the week. Several activities involved village residents in the weeks and months leading up to the Festival and a lot of exciting community activities took place.

We had displays to enjoy and to create:
  • a flower festival encompassing the five churches in Broadway
  • an art competition for professionals
  • an art competition for young people
  • a display of competition entries
  • a display of archival photos depicting Broadway 'then' and now
Activities in partnership with our schools included:
  • work with a resident artist in both primary schools
  • after school rehearsals and a production of a play by acclaimed children's author Hugh Brewster
  • taster music workshops at the primary school plus an after school workshop at the youth club on music of the period, including improvisation, composition and a little 'performance slot' in one of our evening concerts
  • a DVD on Broadway produced in advance by secondary school students and shown during the festival
Of course, during the festival week we had some fun activities:
  • a family fun day on the final Saturday of the festival, including a procession by the children of the village
  • a village party for all to enjoy
In addition to this many of the ticketed events were organised by community members, who gave freely of their time. There were opportunities for people of all ages to volunteer, including helping to organise an event, taking tickets, helping with refreshments, or showing people around our gorgeous village. If you would like to volunteer for the 2012 Festival, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
